Siempre se ha dicho que los mejores jinetes de la Tierra Media son los valerosos Rohirrim, dueños de unos équidos excelentes, jinetes desde muy jóvenes y especialmente diestros en el arte de montar a caballo… siempre se ha dicho eso… pero también es sabido que la historia la escriben los ganadores, y en este caso también ha sido así, ya que los cronistas de los hombres, enanos y elfos obviaron a los jinetes al servicio de Sauron y sus secuaces, y sin desmerecer a los Caballeros de Minas Morgull o a los Hombres del Este que manejaban a su antojo esas fuerzas acorazadas que eran los Catafractos, hay que hablar, y muy bien, de los Variags, una raza de hombres que habitaron las tierras del Khand, situadas al sudeste de Mordor, y que participaron en algunas importantes batallas como la de los Campos del Pelennor, además de otras contra Gondor, cayendo derrotados por estos en la Batalla de los Cruces del Poros.

Los Variags siempre fueron unos hombres fuera de lo común, fuertes, no muy altos, morenos de piel, generalmente con grandes mostachos, gustaban de usar hachas en el combate, siendo muy duchos en el arte de la guerra, pero sobre todo son unos jinetes excelentes.

Señores de la guerra montados siempre en corceles de gran porte, oscuros por no decir siempre negros y muy muy rápidos.

Sus señas de identidad eran un sol amarillo sobre un fondo rojo, y solían vestir ese color en ropas, combinado con el negro, además de que les encantaban las joyas doradas, que solían exhibir en sus vestimentas.

Se sabe a ciencia cierta que los Rohirrim los tenían en alta estima en cuanto a enemigos, ya que eran excelentes jinetes, e incluso algunos pasaban a engrosar las historias de Rohan, como es el caso de Vlates III, uno de los más temibles reyes del Khand, feroz guerrero y fenomenal jinete de carro de combate tirado por dos corceles. Bajo su mando llegaron las mayores victorias de los Khandianos, y fue ahí donde Sauron se decidió a incorporarlos a su ejército, para desgracia de los Variags.

En nuestro caso hablaremos de varios jinetes del Khand, concretamente un grupo de seis que viaja por las estepas cercanas al río Auchel, al norte del reino humano y ya cerca de las inmediaciones de Mordor, hacia donde viajan para unirse al ejército de Sauron.

Ruditeg es el que encabeza a la avanzadilla de, como ya hemos comentado, seis jinetes. Es un avezado jinete, y sobresale de entre sus hermanos. Le acompañan en esta misión Gürtreg, Genhger, Khantreg, Khan-Goleg y el abanderado Ösliger.

Llevan un cinco de días de viaje desde Sturlutsa Khand, ciudad principal desde donde partieron con las órdenes directas de Vlates III de llegar a Mordor a la mayor brevedad y entregar un comunicado a Sauron, en el que, aunque ellos no lo saben, el Rey de los Variags se postula a ayudarlo en la lucha contra los Rohirrim y Gondorianos.

A pesar de la cabalgata que llevan los descansos están siendo reparadores, no solo para los jinetes, sino también para los caballos, que con esta abundante hierba alta verde que hay en los valles circundantes del Auchel les proporciona un alimento rico en energía para el viaje que están realizando.

Their hallmarks were a yellow sun on a red background, and they used to wear that color in clothes, combined with black, and they loved golden jewelry, which they used to display on their clothes.  

It is known for certain that the Rohirrim held them in high esteem as enemies, since they were excellent horsemen, and some even went on to add to the stories of Rohan, as is the case of Vlates III, one of the most fearsome kings of the Khand, fierce warrior and phenomenal chariot rider drawn by two steeds. Under his command came the greatest victories of the Khandians, and it was there that Sauron decided to incorporate them into his army, much to the misfortune of the Variags.  

In our case we will talk about several horsemen of the Khand, specifically a group of six that travels through the steppes near the Auchel river, north of the human kingdom and already close to the outskirts of Mordor, where they travel to join Sauron's army.  

Ruditeg is the one who leads the advance party of, as we have already mentioned, six horsemen. He is a skilled horseman, and stands out among his brothers. He is accompanied on this mission by Gürtreg, Genhger, Khantreg, Khan-Goleg and flag bearer Ösliger.  

They have been traveling for five days from Sturlutsa Khand, the main city from where they left with direct orders from Vlates III to reach Mordor as soon as possible and deliver a communication to Sauron, in which, although they do not know it, the King of the Variags applies to help him in the fight against the Rohirrim and Gondorians.  

Despite the horseback riding, the breaks are restorative, not only for the riders, but also for the horses, which with this abundant tall green grass that is in the surrounding valleys of the Auchel provides them with food rich in energy for the trip. that they are doing.  

They know they are close to their destination and are happy to be the advance guard of its red and black tide, which without a doubt, they think, follows them one or two days away, which is why they dare to sing old stories of battles that the old men sing in the cities, ancient half-forgotten songs that speak of the ancient days when the Variags were respected and known throughout Middle-earth as breeders of horses and excellent horsemen, something that now seems to have been forgotten, and that the proud Variags want recover, and for them they show their banners on their backs with the golden sun on the blood red background, in addition to Ösliger carrying one of the three banners of the Khand, composed of 6 red tassels that refer to the victories in large cities that Vlates III has achieved in recent years and that increases the fame of these riders.
